AppTV is the award-winning student-run college TV station. We are incredibly proud of all the work that the students have created over the years, culminating in being named BEA 2025 Signature Station for the first time ever. This page serves to highlight our award winning pieces, from College Broadcasters Inc (CBI), Associated Collegiate Press (ACP), College Media Association (CMA), and Broadcast Education Association (BEA)

As part of the submission for BEA Signature Station, AppTV provided three programming samples that highlight the type of content that it airs:

  • High Country Democracy - The last 5 minutes of High Country Democracy, the 2024 election live show, culminated in live hits from 3 locations, and back to the studio for final thoughts.

  • Up Late Scream Parody  - The cold open for the Halloween Special of Up Late (AppTV’s comedy show) parodying Scream

  • Hurricane Helene, Losing Everything - One of many pieces that was produced in the wake of Hurricane Helene, highlighting a Banner Elk resident and her recovery efforts after the hurricane did catastrophic damage to her house. Losing Everything also placed second in Television Long Feature category from BEA.

BEA - 3rd place - Television Short Feature

Large or small, some areas of Western North Carolina, will take months, if not years to rebuild.

David Katzenmaier takes us on a journey through one of those areas, called North Cove.

BEA - Award of Excellence - Television Long Feature

When Hurricane Helene rampaged 500 miles inland, small mountain towns such as Boone, Banner Elk, Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, and Spruce Pine were all hit by unimaginable floods.

One Appalachian State graduate student lived in fear, with his family stranded in the small Spruce Pine community, on his birthday no less. After more than a week, when roads were finally cleared he traveled back to Spruce Pine to reunite with his family and begin the rebuilding process.
